Introduction


The Department of Urban Development & Housing, Arunachal Pradesh was created on 04.04.1995 vide order OM-1/95(pt) to function as Nodal Department for formulating policies of Urban Development activities, creation of urban infrastructure, implementation & monitoring of various poverty alleviation programme. The state Govt. has declared the Urban Development Department as Works Department on 2005. Today, the Department is headed by a Chief Engineer with functional 28 (Twenty Eight) divisions throughout the state [Tawang, Bomdila, Seppa, Capital Complex, Itanagar, Yupia, Ziro, Koloriang, Palin Daporijo, Basar, Aalo, Pasighat, Boleng, Yingkiong, Roing, Anini, Tezu, Hawai, Namsai, Changlang, Jairampur, Khonsa, Longding, Lemmi, Raga, Likabali and Tato].

Re-named as Department of Urban Affairs in 2021 consisting of four Wings namely, Urban Development, Town Planning, Housing and Urban Local Bodies.

  • Implementation, Execution, Monitoring & Maintenance of all Physical and Economical Urban Infrastructures (Urban Roads; Bridges; Flyovers; Overbridges; Underground Sub-Ways; Storm Water Drains; Drainage; Sewerage; Septage Management; Parking Places; Bus/Truck Terminals; Urban Transport; Ropeways; Burial and Cremation Grounds; Parks/Playgrounds; Public Conveniences and Passenger Waiting Sheds etc.),
  • Implementation, Execution, Monitoring & Maintenance of all Social Urban Amenities and infrastructures (Community Buildings, Shopping Complex; Parking Places; and Indoor/Outdoor Stadium etc.),
  • Preparation and execution of all civil works of Department of Urban Affairs and deposit works of other agencies,
  • Urban schemes under GoI grants/loans and external aided projects etc.
  • Urban Poverty Alleviation Programmes,
  • Cattle pounds, prevention of cruelty to animals,
  • Regulation of slaughterhouse and tanneries,
  • Planning for Economic and Social Development,
  • Slum Improvement and Upgradation,
  • Matter related to Public Health and Sanitation, and
  • All CSS matters pertaining to the Department.

The concerns for degradation of environment have drawn the attention of global communities now more than ever. The effects of global warming and shrinking of green cover of the planet has started to negate the developmental efforts. The negative impacts of the economic activities have threatened not only the flora and fauna but very existence of human life. The sustainable development with green concern is the new mantra now.
